Membership Engagement

The Committee is responsible for systematic engagement of AFA-CWA Members to achieve a vital connection of two-way communication between AFA-CWA Members and AFA-CWA Leadership. 

The committee structure encourages a high level of participation from the AFA-CWA membership to build solidarity and power to support all Union efforts to defend and enhance the Flight Attendant profession.

Karen began her career at United Airlines as a Flight Attendant in 1990. While flying, Karen was able to return to school and earn her BA in Communications. In 2004, after attending a local AFA meetings, Karen started volunteering in the local office gravitating toward the grievance committee and later serving as Grievance Chairperson. She has continually defended Flight Attendants contractual and disciplinary rights ensuring the companies consistent and correct applications of the provisions governing the Flight Attendant profession.

In 2011, Karen was elected for and currently serves asCouncil Representative for Council 21 (DCA). She has worked as a liaison for Flight Attendants to ensure their issues are brought forward as well as assisting the local AFA Officers in communicating with the membership.

Karen’s passion and experience has naturally led her to serve as Team Leader for the Council 21 Mobilization Committee and now to the position as Membership Engagement Chairperson. Her experience is that an educated, unified and mobilized work group can achieve great things!
