From the IAH Schedule Committee
For the past several months your local schedule committee has communicated to Crew Schedule Planning and the AFA Central Schedule Committee (CSC) our desire to see an increase in the variety of flying for our domicile, specifically more multiday domestic ID’s/lines and fewer turn lines.
In March, during the scheduled DSL review meeting, the AFA CSC addressed this issue with Crew Schedule Planning, who in return agreed to analyze our flying. In April’s meeting crew Schedule Planning stated that the analysis of May flying showed approximately 60% of flight attendants in our domicile flying turn and they agreed that seemed excessive.
As a result of the analysis, beginning with the June schedule, Crew Schedule Planning has agreed to set a cap of approximately 40% of flight attendants flying turns, this includes domestic and international flying. We see this as a step in the right direction to increase the variety of flying and thank both the SCS and Crew Schedule Planning.
Summary of flying for the June schedule month:
June is a 30 day month (schedule beginning June 1st and ending June 30th)

If you are currently missing core items, log on to your Cintas account or call
Cintas directly to determine the status of your garment, which will be identified
as one the following:
- Back order: Cintas is receiving new shipments daily and processing them as quickly as possible.
- Reserved: The order has been placed and is in queue for shipment.
- Shipped: If you have not received the item, contact your base supervisor.
*Delivery of optional items is not guaranteed before June 25.
Orlando - The Location of the 2014 AFA BOD Meeting!
The International Office is responsible for the coordination of the
Board of Directors’ Meeting and its location. The International Office,
acting at the direction of the AFA Board of Directors (which consists
of the Locally Elected Representatives from each of the airlines within
AFA) solicited the Members of the Board of Directors for their input on
locations for next year’s Board meeting.
The United Master Executive
Council (consisting of the 15 Local Council Presidents at United
Airlines) is not asking for locations for the next Board of Directors’
meeting. The Local Council Presidents who make up the United MEC are
also Members of the AFA Board of Directors (BOD) – the highest governing
body of our Union.
Local Council 42 made a choice to ask for input from the IAH flight attendants in Local 42 and received numerous feedback
via emails, Facebook and phone texts. Based on all the feedback,
Council 42 LECP voted in behalf of the IAH flight attendants as follows
based on the top 3 choices (as roll call votes):
Vote for D (Los Angeles) = 300 VOTES, E (Orlando) =150 VOTES and
Vote for C (Las Vegas)= 52 Votes.
The original balloting resulted
in a runoff between two cities: Orlando and Baltimore. Council 42 cast
all 502 votes for Orlando based on the original votes submitted by IAH
flight attendants.
In this
ballot, 51 of the 54 Local Presidents voted, which represents
participation 98% of the membership on a roll call basis. As a result,
on April 30, Orlando was chosen as the location for the 2014 BOD
Meeting. The total results were as follows:
Votes Cast:
Orlando (MCO) 23,236 – 63.9% Baltimore (BWI) 13,127 - 36.1%
Eligible votes: 37,265 Votes Cast 36,363 (97.6%)
Thank you for all those participating in our democratic process!!

We want to make it easier for you to access information when you need some assistance.

- Your Rights As An Employee
The information can be extremely valuable and is also available at www.unitedafa.org and on the AFA app for smartphones. And ALWAYS carry your United 2012-2016 Flight Attendant Agreement when at work. Be safe and keep your eyes open for many new changes coming our way.
