Memorial Day Message

Date: May 29, 2017
Type: MEC President Letter

May 29, 2017

Ladies and Gentlemen:

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day - an American tradition that is synonymous with the unofficial start of summer.  At the same time, we remember all the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in military service for our United States.  It’s a time where we come together at cemeteries and memorials to honor those who have died in military service.

At the same time, we come together to hold picnics, sports events and family gatherings on this weekend.  Many of us see the Memorial Day weekend as an opportunity to take a quick vacation or visit with our family or friends.

During the course of this weekend, we share in these events through our participation or, through our work as Safety Professionals.  We make it possible for these quick family reunions to occur as we ensure the safe travel by air to locations around our country.  We join our families or our professional family when at work to create the memories of which we have become so fond over the years.

Over the course of the past several weeks, our industry and our profession have faced a number of challenges.  For many of us, these same events have presented us with personal challenges.  We have faced these challenges together and our collective work has made us stronger.  In coming together, we are stronger in facing the issues and challenges affecting our chosen profession.  Of this body of work, we stand proudly together.

As we come together to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country, let us also remember the lessons learned from their contributions.  Collectively, we are stronger together.

On behalf of the entire United Master Executive Council, we wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday.

Sincerely,

Ken Diaz, President
