Welcome New Hire Class 1707

Today we welcome the 59 graduating Members of class 1707 to the line. Our newest flying partners will be reporting to DCA/IAD, EWR and SFO to their respective base(s) May 16, 2017 for orientation and will be available to fly on May 18, 2017. Please join us in welcoming these new Flight Attendants to our family.


Great News! United Announces Plans for New Designer Uniforms

After several months of gathering feedback from frontline employees and Union representatives, United management shared with employees the results of an industry-wide search to find the best brands to help in creating completely new uniforms that will present to our customers the new spirit of United.

Recognizing that each of us contributes our unique talents and abilities, in different ways, to the success of our daily operation, management has acknowledged that a one-size-fits-all approach to the development of new uniforms is likely not the best way to achieve success.  For this reason, United selected partners of distinction who will play specific roles in the new uniform program.

Tracy Reese, a renowned New York designer who has ties to the Midwest, will create the new female uniform while Brooks Brothers will design the male uniform for Flight Attendants and Pilots.  Ms. Reese will collaborate with Brooks Brothers, our country’s most experienced clothing retailer, in manufacturing both the male and female uniforms all the while upholding their two century old tradition of quality and value.  The roll out for our new look is anticipated to be sometime in 2019.

Over the next several months, management will be working closely with frontline employees to learn our views on the essential components of a quality uniform that fits the work we do every day as Safety Professionals.  You are encouraged to participate in the uniform roadshows that will be taking place around the system.  Stop by and be a part of shaping the future vision of the new look that will become our own.

Representatives from Brooks Brothers and Tracy Reese's team will be available at the following locations:

  • EWR: 5/22 - 5/23
  • IAD: 5/26 and 5/30
  • IAH: 6/2 and 6/5
  • DEN: 6/8 - 6/9

(UAL) Profit Sharing Grievance – MEC 9-12

In June of 2012, MEC Grievance 9-12 was filed when our Profit Sharing payments did not conform to Section 5.J.2 of the Contract and these deviations were made without the consent of the Union. This grievance is pending before the System Board of Adjustment. At this time, we continue to work to schedule the proceedings at a mutual agreeable time for all parties involved.


Equal Rest for All Crewmembers!  It’s about Safety, Health and Equality!

Federal regulations allow Flight Attendant rest to be reduced to 8 hours.  As Flight Attendants, we know this probably means 3-4 hours sleep, if all goes well.

Call your Senators today! We are calling on Congress to mandate a 10-hour, non-reducible, minimum rest rule and a Fatigue Risk Management Plan which will mirror what the FAA has established for pilots.  Flight Attendant rest should equal pilot rest. Through the FAA Reauthorization Bill, your Senators can make this happen.

Help bring the full force of our Union behind our goal to achieve equal rest for all Flight Attendants.  Rest now!  Fight for 10!

“I’m a constituent. I want my Senator’s support in aligning Flight Attendant minimum rest with the pilots and provide a Fatigue Risk Management Plan. Please urge the Commerce Committee to include 10-hour, non-reducible minimum rest in the FAA Reauthorization Bill. Thank you.”

(UAL) Galley Pay Cert Code - Checking Your DFAP

Effective for the May bid month (May 2, 2017 - May 31, 2017), pre-merger UAL Flight Attendants working galley positions on eligible flights can now submit Galley Pay requests through the Galley Pay App on their Link.

To verify the galley pay and/or premium pay has been correctly added to your DFAP, refer to the following DFAP Cert codes:

Domestic Galley Pay:  51070 

International Galley Pay:  53070

International Premium Pay for Bid Galley Positions:  63070

LINK – Safeware® Election Reminder

Safeware® is the nation’s largest provider of specialized insurance plans and was selected by United management to offer coverage for the Link device against loss or theft through a recovery protection plan.  At an annual cost of $30, this coverage eliminates the $300 replacement fee in the event your Link is lost or stolen.  The current coverage plan expires on June 7, 2017.  Keep in mind the following:

  • If Link is broken or damaged, it will be replaced for you at no charge. However, if Link is lost or stolen, the replacement charge will be $300. This charge is waived for the first instance of theft with a police report
  • If you desire an option to reduce exposure to a $300 replacement fee, there is a recovery protection plan available

The enrollment window for the June 8, 2017 – June 7, 2018 coverage period is now open. You must make your election by June 7, 2017.  If you elect not to opt in, your coverage will default to “opt out” and you will have no protection should your Link become lost or stolen. The cost of the recovery protection is $30 dollars. Visit the Safeware website to enroll.

Crewmembers Must Register Hotel Guest when on Beijing Layover

In Beijing in the coming weeks there will be a number of large government functions that will take place at various hotels in the city.  In anticipation of these events, some of which will be very high profile in nature, it is anticipated that the local police authorities will be increasing security in and around our layover hotels.  During these events, hotel security will be particularly tight and all guests will be required to follow strict hotel protocols and procedures for registering guests at all the rooms in the hotel. 

If you will be entertaining friends or family while in Beijing, before inviting any guest to your hotel room, you must first register the guest with the front desk.  Failure to follow these protocols may subject the registered guest of the hotel to a fine or other legal action.  In certain instances, you could be detained for further investigation and possible fines.  The hotel will take no responsibility for any unauthorized (non-registered) guests and police will be operating autonomously during these events.  For this reason, please ensure you have registered any and all guests who may be visiting you during your stay at the hotel.
