(CAL & CMI) Implementation of Section 17.E. – Transfer Eligibility

Date: May 19, 2017
Type: AFA Article

Inquiries received at the MEC Office suggest there is some confusion regarding the implementation of the base (domicile) transfer provisions of Section 17.E. of the Contract.  As outlined in the April 28, 2017 edition of One United, the minimum eligibility for transfer language will be implemented for all Flight Attendants, without regard to pre-merger affiliation, with the June 2017 schedule month.   Effective as of June 1st, only those Flight Attendants who have completed their probationary period will be eligible to transfer to another base/domicile.  This is a new provision for pmCAL and pmCMI Flight Attendants.

Recognizing the implementation of this provision will have an impact on those new hires who have recently reported to their base assignments from training, the MEC Officers have had a discussion with management advocating for use of the “lesser restriction” outlined in this Contract language.  In response to our request, management explained a business need exists to maintain the current domicile populations based on the expected level of summer flying.  Domicile populations closely match the anticipated need for the summer at most base locations.  For this reason, management has said no lesser restriction will be provided, at least for the foreseeable future through the summer.
