E-Lines: July 14, 2017

Date: July 14, 2017
Type: Dear AFA

Stay Linked!  Enter before Midnight Tonight to Win an iPad.

Because of a delay in the delivery of the supply of Got Link? bag tags to certain base locations, a decision was made to postpone the close of the period to provide your contact information in order to receive E-lines and your Local Council Newsletter.  If you are still interested in doing so, you must sign up before midnight tonight. During the last two weeks, approximately 1,000 additional Members have signed up to receive important communications from their Union.

This was a successful Membership Engagement campaign where volunteers worked to encourage Members to engage with their Union leadership and to learn about the initiatives of the Union in supporting us in our profession. In addition to the sign-up period, your Union leadership encouraged distribution of the Got Link! bag tag as a way to remind ourselves and each other about our Link devices, to help minimize leaving it behind or forgetting to carry it. We encourage you to stop by your Local Union desk to pick-up your “Got Link?” bag tag!

All AFA Members in good standing, who sign up for AFA E-Lines and Local Council Newsletters through the Stay Linked page on our website, may participate in the drawing to win one of five iPad Tablets. Even if you’re already receiving E-Lines and Local Newsletters, you can participate, as long as you enter to win.  To register, click the “StayLinked” banner on our website and fill out the form by midnight, July 14, 2017, CST.  On July 19th, five names will be randomly drawn to determine the lucky iPad winners.

Administration of FMLA Process Centralized as of July 1, 2017

Effective July 1, FMLA transitioned to one centralized Family Medical Leave (FML) Administration system.  This consolidates all Flight Attendants currently on FMLA status and any future FMLA submissions into one system, regardless of your pre-merger affiliation. All FMLA will now be processed by the Employee Service Center (ECS), via the Flight Attendant Service Team (FAST). Pre-merger CAL and CMI Flight Attendants will no longer need to call scheduling when utilizing their FMLA.

If you have been assigned an FML Case number and need to place yourself on family medical leave absence:

  1. Call 1-800-FLT-LINE
  2. Option #4 to reach FAST and follow the prompts

Please be prepared to enter your employee file number and FML Case number. A FAST representative will then send (SK) notification that you will not be on your trip or assignment and will appropriately code the absence. A notification will be sent to your supervisor.

If you have NOT been assigned an FML Case number,

  1. Call 1-800-FLT-LINE
  2. Option #4 to reach FAST and follow the prompts

If you are unable to make your trip or assignment and you believe that it will be FML eligible, you must inform the FAST representative that you are placing yourself on sick leave family leave PENDING.  You will have 15 days from the beginning of the absence to submit via FAX your certification pages. To do so:

FAX FMLA Certification Pages to 1-847-700-3084

We recommend using the Federal Department of Labor Family Leave forms available on the Family Medical Leave page on our website.

If you have any additional questions please contact your Local Council Office.

Call Now: 100K Strong for 10 Hours and Jobs

The House of Representatives' version of the FAA Reauthorization bill includes 10 hours minimum rest for Flight Attendants and protections against outsourcing of aviation jobs to countries with the lowest labor standards. We are mobilizing 100,000 Flight Attendants strong to dial 855-980-2366 to tell our Representatives to vote for the AIRR Act, HR 2997.

AFA International President Sara Nelson is asking all of us to take action. Watch the video.

Call your Representative TODAY at 855-980-2366 and tell them to support the 21st Century AIRR Act (H.R. 2997)!

Here's what you can say when you are connected:

"I'm your constituent and a Flight Attendant. I'm calling to urge my Representative to vote YES on H.R. 2997 when it comes to the House floor. This FAA Reauthorization bill ensures I have 10 hours non-reducible rest and prevents the outsourcing of my job. Flight Attendants can’t wait any longer for these safety and job protections. Please vote YES on H.R. 2997. Thank you."

Calling is easy: When you dial the number, you will automatically be connected to your Representative's office.
