Supporting the O’Hare Expansion Project Grows Vital Chicago Aviation

 The United Master Executive Council unequivocally supports the O’Hare International Expansion project which is necessary to support the continued growth of the vital air transport industry in Chicago.

 This expansion not only enhances the stature of the O’Hare International Airport, it provides opportunities for additional job growth and bolsters our job security.

 The MEC Officers have sent a letter to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago expressing our support of this critically important initiative.

MEC Hotel & Transportation Committee

 As a continuation of our educational series on the roles and work of the various MEC Committees, this week we focus on the important work of our Hotel & Transportation Committee.

 The primary objective of the MEC Hotel & Transportation Committee is to oversee the selection of hotels and ensure the negotiated standards set forth in the JCBA provide safe, clean and quiet lodging with food availability for Flight Attendants on layover.

 The MEC Hotel and Transportation Committee Members follow an objective inspection process when selecting hotels or renewing hotel contracts. Hotel Standards for Flight Attendants are clearly spelled out in our JCBA, LOA 17 (page 330-333). Hotels inspected are selected through a Request for Proposal process where company representatives ask hotels in any given city to respond to a request from the company to lodge Flight Attendants for layovers. Not every hotel in every city is interested in crew business for various reasons. The reasons can include our flight arrival and departure patterns which might drive the need for additional hotel personnel to prepare rooms to support our arrival. Other reasons can include the number of rooms needed or other factors such as conventions or other anticipated business that might preclude the hotel for consistently meeting the number of hotel rooms needed each night. It might surprise you to learn that in one city the need for Flight Attendants each night exceeds 100 rooms!

 As part of the Hotel Committee’s responsibility to enforce our JCBA, each month the Members of the Hotel & Transportation Committee participate in a conference call with management representatives to discuss issues that might otherwise compromise the provisions of our Contract.

 Flight Attendants play a critical role in keeping the Hotel and Transportation Committee informed by filing reports on any issues they encounter with a contracted hotel. Reports may be filed on-line by utilizing the following procedures:

 Pre-merger UA: Submit a TVLLOG via Unimatic
TVLLOG is a Contractual corporate database created to document and track hotel and transportation compliments and complaints. The information is stored in a shared database available to the Union and the company. TVLLOG is the exclusive method by which these hotel & transportation issues are to be reported.  Pre-Merger CAL and CMI: Submit a Hotel Report
Use this report to write up issues about hotels and transportation vendors.

 We all have a shared role in Contract enforcement. You play a critical role in reporting issues of concern that will support the Committee in their efforts to enforce the Agreement. If you have questions, please contact your Local Council Hotel & Transportation Committee for assistance.



JCBA Roadshows - Meet with Ken Diaz, AFA MEC President and John Slater, VP Inflight Services - Operations

 As we move forward toward that all important October 1st implementation date, United AFA MEC President, Ken Diaz and Inflight Services Vice President of Operations, John Slater, will take to the road and travel across the system to meet with Flight Attendants to listen to their concerns and answer questions relating to the implementation of our Joint Contract.

These roadshow events will be held in a casual group setting that will encourage open dialogue, facilitate conversation and create yet another opportunity for Flight Attendants to receive information directly from company and Union leadership. Additional road shows will be announced as details are finalized.



pmCAL New Greek Language Base to Open in EWR June 2, 2018

 On Monday, March 12, 2018, the company announced the opening of a Greek language base (NLS-GRK) in EWR on June 2, 2018, in anticipation of the seasonal EWR-ATH scheduled summer flight. At this time EWR-ATH will be operating on pm-CAL aircraft.

 Transfer requests, must be submitted via CCS no later than March 26, 2018, 10:00 AM Central time. Awards will be posted March 28, 2018. Flight Attendants must be Greek language qualified prior to the transfer and those interested in becoming language qualified should contact inflightlanguages@united.com.

 Flight Attendants not awarded a transfer are encouraged to leave their request on file for a possible second award opportunity.



Tumi® Official Launch Date is this Friday, March 16, 2018 – Luggage Required
MEC Uniform Committee

 As a reminder, the company has announced that March 16, 2018 will be the official launch date for all Flight Attendants to carry their company-issued TUMI® luggage. Flight Attendants who have not previously ordered their luggage through the Tumi® website should contact tumiluggage@united.com for assistance with ordering the new luggage.

 If you have not received your new Tumi® luggage, contact your Local domicile uniform coordinator for assistance.



Spring 2018 Regular United MEC Meeting & AFA BOD Meeting in Atlantic City, NJ 

 The Spring 2018 Regular Meeting of the United Master Executive Council will be conducted in Atlantic City, NJ in conjunction with the 46th annual AFA Board of Directors Meeting at Harrah’s Hotel.

 The United MEC will be in session on the dates both sides of the AFA BOD meeting. The AFA BOD meeting is scheduled April 9-11, 2018. The United MEC will meeting April 7 & 8, 2018, recess for the AFA BOD meeting April 9-11, 2018 and will reconvene on April 12, 2018 to complete its business.

 The BOD shall take action on annual international programs to reaffirm and/or establish priorities and strategies for the upcoming year, including determination of the annual budget. The AFA BOD oversees all Union activities.

 Additionally, at this year’s BOD meeting, the Local Council Presidents of each Local AFA Council will elect the International Officers - the International President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer; who will then serve a full-time four-year term commencing June 1st, 2018. The International Officers administer Union operations in accordance with our Constitution and Bylaws, and at the direction of the BOD.

 The 2018 advanced agenda items to be acted on at this year’s BOD are now posted on afa-cwa.org.

 We encourage Members to see our democratic process in action by attending your Local Council meetings and, if you are in the Atlantic City during the meetings, you are encouraged to attend. The schedule for your Local Council meeting will be posted on unitedafa.org once that information is finalized.
