Don’t Forget – LINK Support – Your First Point of Contact

Date: April 28, 2017
Type: AFA Article

Reports from the field indicate there has been a rise in the number of incidents where LINK devices have been lost, stolen or left onboard aircraft.  In every instance as part of our safety commitment we must remember, if the LINK or Sled is not working, is lost, stolen or damaged, or the eFAOM cannot be accessed, the first point of contact should be United’s LINK support Hotline to initiate the replacement process.

More information is available in the damaged, lost/stolen Link or eFAOM not accessible section of the eFAOM. If you are without your eFAOM, this information is also available in the introduction chapter of the eFAOM, available on the Inflight Services page of Flying Together.

As the details of problems with these devices have been reported, we are learning there may be some confusion in the understanding of the “minimum print solution.”  The “minimum print” solution is one of the options available to Crew Scheduling based upon a number of different factors, including the availability of a replacement Link. Crew Scheduling will determine if the “minimum print” solution will be used.  In every instance where a LINK device and associated components are either not functional or are unavailable (for whatever reason), the LINK support desk is your first point of contact.  By properly consulting with this valuable resource, you will always ensure full compliance with all Federal Regulations.

Within the United States

LINK Support from an International destination

Call the AT&T international access line (available via our website or Flying Together).  Once connected dial (877) 363-5800, option 7 (after being connected to the United Airlines Technical Services desk.)

A protection plan has been made available through Safeware for an annual fee of $30. In the event your device is lost or stolen, this protection plan eliminates the $300 fee associated with any loss or theft of the device.  The fee for the protection plan can be paid via payroll deduction or credit card.  Keep in mind, this protection plan, while optional, is something you may want to consider.  The annual open enrollment period for coverage for the June 8, 2017 – June 7, 2018 coverage period, will begin on May 1st.

If you have not previously elected protection for the current period (which runs through June 7, 2017) during last year’s enrollment period, the opportunity to purchase protection, which will be pro-rated based on the day of enrollment, continues to be available to you.  Any election to enroll outside of the open enrollment period will require that you present the device at your base to verify it is still in your possession and operational.  Once this is accomplished, your coverage will be activated.

This plan eliminates the $300 fee in the event of loss or theft. (If your device is stolen, the $300 replacement charge is waived for the first instance when a police report is submitted within ten (10) days of reporting the device stolen.)

Visit the Safeware website to enroll.   If you have additional questions, contact your Local Council Office.
