Lock and TRDKEY Function

Date: May 1, 2009
Type: AFA Article

In response to your feedback, your AFA leadership has been advocating management include a "password" option for trading.  United responded to our advocacy and began the process of programming for the new function in Unimatic.  We are pleased to announce beginning May 5, Flight Attendants may choose to lock their line from others entering a trade and/or ANP/PTO requests on their behalf.  The locking function, available through TRDKEY, may be activated or de-activated at any time.

When locking your line in TRDKEY you may establish a personal key that can be shared with flying partners entrusted to perform trades and/or ANP/PTO on your behalf.  The basic functions include:

  • The default setting in TRDKEY is unlocked. If you do not update the lock or trade key fields, trades may be entered the same as today.
  • If you elect to use the lock and key, other Flight Attendants will be prompted to enter your key when performing trade and/or ANP/PTO requests on your behalf.
  • You may also lock your line without establishing a key, which restricts anyone but yourself from entering trades (including between two Flight Attendants) and/or ANP/PTO.
  • Your ability to display and enter requests for yourself is unaffected by TRDKEY.
  • If a Flight Attendant’s TRDKEY is set to lock without a key, you will not be able to enter a trade and/or ANP/PTO complete the submission and receive the following error response: TRDKEY-ERR: F/A/ LOCKED, INVALID REQUEST

  VALID LOCK VALUES ARE:
LOCK – ONLY ALLOW OTHERS TO DISPLAY/ENTER REQUESTS WITH KEY
UNLK – ALLOW OTHERS TO DISPLAY/ENTER REQUESTS

The first step in restricting others from performing unwanted schedule adjustments is to enter TRDKEY in Unimatic. Following the TRDKEY entry, the screen above will appear. You may tab or use the arrow keys to navigate between the fields. Here are the steps:

  1. Enter your six-digit file number.
  2. Enter LOCK or UNLK to set your desired security level. At this point, you may tab to the end of the line and enter. This will restrict all other Flight Attendants from entering trades and/or ANP/PTO on your behalf.
  3. Tab to TRDKEY and enter a personal six-digit code that may be shared with entrusted Flight Attendants. Note: Enter your own TRDKEY, “FLYING” is only intended as an example.
  4. Tab to the end of the line and press enter.

All trade and ANP/PTO request and input screens now include a field to input a TRDKEY for the second Flight Attendant.
