Comprehensive Tentative Agreement Summary

Dear Flying Partners:

It has been a very busy and emotional time for many of us over the last month.  This merger has been a roller coaster ride since the beginning, but we have remained professional and steadfast throughout the process.  As I write this letter, I am filled with emotion.  It has been a long hard road to get to the point where we can present to you… a Tentative Agreement.  I am not talking about just any Tentative Agreement.  I am talking about a TA that has a blend of all cultures from our premerger airlines…A Tentative that respects the worlds each of us come from.  While some things may look different, many things will be familiar to you.
Dante Harris

As your President, I made a commitment early on.  My commitment was to listen to each and every one of you.  My commitment was to bring your issues to the MEC and International levels of our Union and represent your voice.  My commitment was to fight against “deal breakers” that you identified over the years.  Since this merger, Council 12 has had dozens upon dozens of meetings…whether they were in person, via teleconference, or at happy hour/round table discussions.  At those meetings, we continued to talk about “deal breakers”.  We spoke about what a deal breaker was and what a deal breaker wasn’t.  I promised to fight to ensure the deal breakers you identified were not in any TA that I voted to send to you for consideration.  I take much pride in reporting to you that without hesitation, I voted along with my colleagues of the Joint Master Executive Council, to send this Tentative Agreement out for your vote and consideration.

I believe in my heart that this Tentative Agreement is the pathway forward in an effort to move our airline to its rightful place in leading the industry.  Did we achieve every single thing we set out for? Absolutely not.  Did we achieve a Tentative Agreement that respects your time at work and your time off?  Absolutely yes!  Did we achieve a TA that brings us to decent middle class wages? Absolutely yes!

We didn’t achieve any of this alone.  It was YOU.  It was all of your tenacity and persistency with our days of action that pushed us over that finish line.  It was the Los Angeles Labor Community that joined us in Solidarity on each one of those picket lines!  I am so proud of the love and comradery we have here in Los Angeles.  LAX Rocks!

AFA-CWA is comprised of line Flight Attendants working together to make a difference for all.  AFA was born here at United Airlines and it is AFA that will continue to be the powerhouse voice for our profession.  I will never forget the chills felt on the picket lines when it was shouted… “Who are we?” and the crowd belted in unison… “AFA-CWA!”  Yes, we are AFA-CWA!

In the coming days, you will be able to review the entire Tentative Agreement language.  Please take the time to study the provisions, attend meetings/roadshows, and make an informed decision on our collective future.  Also know that the Council 12 Officers are just a phone call away should you have any questions or concerns.

In closing, I just want to say Congratulations!  The Council 12 membership makes things happen! We are LOVE. We are UNITY.  We are UNITED.  We are AFA-CWA!

Fly Safe and Remember….

Where There Is Unity, We Will Find Strength AND We Shall Over Come!

In Solidarity,

Dante

Comprehensive Summary of Our Tentative Agreement

Date: 7/2/2016

July 2, 2016

Dear Fellow Flight Attendants:

As the elected leaders representing all 25,000 United Flight Attendants, we stand behind the Tentative Agreement and unanimously approved submitting it to AFA members for ratification. With your approval, our Flight Attendant contract will set new industry standards that push our careers forward as United Airlines seeks to restore our premiere status in the industry.

Review this comprehensive summary of the terms of our Tentative Agreement. We know there will be many questions and the summary will need to be supplemented with further explanation. We will answer your questions each day in addition to providing you with the full language of the Tentative Agreement.

The JNC continues to review the hundreds of pages of full contract language that has been written over the course of the negotiations. This is unlike any other contract negotiations as we put three contracts together for the foundation that will shape our careers going forward. It is critical that the correct language be posted for the on-going protection of our contractual rights. The full language of the Tentative Agreement will be posted by July 11, 2016.

A series of JNC Information Sessions will begin on July 11th as well, including a live Webcast scheduled for July 13th at 1100 Eastern. There will also be Local Council meetings for review of the Tentative Agreement. Every day additional information tools will be posted on OurContract.org. We will answer all of your questions and provide you with all of the information necessary to cast an informed vote.

Make sure you are signed up for updates on OurContract.org and take the time necessary to review all of the information and get all of your questions answered. Flight Attendants deserve a joint collective bargaining agreement to obtain all of the benefits of a fully integrated airline and which reflects our hard work on the frontline of United Airlines. Now is the time to move forward. We are stronger and better together.

In Solidarity,

The AFA-CWA United Airlines JNC and Joint CAL/CMI/UAL MEC
