October Flying

Our October flying will be a 31 day month beginning September 29th and ending October 29th. We are projected to have a total of 69 lines including 6 Purser lines. Line value is projected at an average of 82:12. Similar to last month, we will only have a few west coast base IDs at the beginning and the end of the month. That will necessitate mixing west coast and GUM flying on some base ID lines. We will only have 10 positions daily to GUM. On the base IDs there will be one SFO>LAX and one SFO layover with an early LAX>HNL leg home along with two regular 3 day LAX. The single position west coast IDs will all be the regular 3 day LAX.

Merging the MECs

On September 6th the members the three pre-merger MECs will meet in Washington D.C to merge the MECs and elect new MEC Officers. The agenda will include discussions about combining of some budgets and MEC Committees. This is an important step as we move forward together. There will also be elections later in the year at the locations where there are dual Councils. You can read more details in this AFA article.

AFA Pins & 9/11 Commemoration

Please continue to wear your AFA pins. For the month of September we will again be wearing the black ribbon with gold trim behind our AFA pins to commemorate the 9/11 observances. I’ll try to arrange distribution to crews beginning September 1st.

Council 14 Elections

Balllots for our Council 14 Local Executive Council elections will be mailed on September 16th. The letters will contain instructions on how to vote as well as your activation codes. Voting will open September 20th and close October 12th. Here is a link to the Council 14 nomination results.

 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Update

The company sent out this update detailing some of the provisions of our CBA which took effect on August 30th. You may continue to check on the company’s One United page for further updates on the implementation process.

Hawaii Family Leave Law (HFLL)

I’ve been working with the office to ensure our HNL based Flight Attendants have a clear path to using the HFLL. Please contact Sally or Andrea for assistance.

The choices you make in the November 8, 2016 general election will determine what we can achieve for working families and for our profession. We are counting on every AFA-CWA member to register to vote (or to verify that your voter registration is up-to-date), to learn which candidates support working family issues and, most importantly, that you vote! There is still time to register to vote for the General Election, request an absentee ballot or change any voter information online.  Simply visit the link below to begin.

It is important that you verify your voter registration status. If you have moved or changed your name in the past two years, you may need to re-register to vote. Check your registration status.
