Inside this issue:  New Website, November Bid information, New Hire Corner, and More!

Dear Council 11 Members,

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website at afasfo.org. We would like to recognize Council Representative Felissa Hay for all of the hard work she did to make this happen! We would also like to thank all of the members who contributed all of the photos! Having such talented members of our workforce willing to share their work is inspiring!

Remembering Inez Izumi

This past week we worked collaboratively with management to provide Inez Izumi the appropriate homecoming she deserved. The loss of one of our own is tragic. Please know that EAP and Safety Health and Security have been and continue to be involved. EAP is always available to members who need assistance and the 24-hour assistance line can be reached at 1-800-424-2406.

November Bid Information

November is a 31-day month, starting on Sunday October 30, 2016 and ending on Tuesday November 29, 2016.

Contractual Holiday(s): Thanksgiving Day -November 26, 2016. United States

Daylight Savings Time: Ending (-1.00) Sunday November 6, 2016 at 02:00; USA, Bahamas (NAS), Canada

In the November Schedule month, we will gain 3 new destinations including daily flights to both Auckland and Seoul as well as Osaka 5 days a week. The line average in the International operation is estimated at 76 hours.

In the Domestic bid package, we will see an estimated line average of 74:04. We will continue to see a number of Domestic Purser Qualified lines. We have advocated for an additional 1-2 purser qualified lines to ensure the line average in these lines is equal to the non-purser qualified lines.

We will see an increase in the number of Reserve lines for the month of November. Previously we have had 38 Reserve Lines and for November we will have 40 Reserve Lines. It is important to note that the increase in number of Reserve lines does not mean there will be an increase to the number of Flight Attendants serving Reserve.  We also will see 1 Reserve line with 13 days off. This line will be 1440/1540. Flight Attendants not wishing to have a decreased minimum should not bid this line.

New Hire Corner

This past week we met with Management to get a clearer understanding of the developing U program for new hire Flight Attendants. This program is designed to help bridge the gap between training and being on the line the first 8 months. It is important for all New Flight Attendants to complete the requirements of this program in a timely manner. We understand there was confusion in September since the bid month ended on the 28 and the deadlines for this program are tied to the bid months and not the calendar months. We want to remind all of our New Flight Attendants that the bid month for October ends on October 29. We are working with Management to provide clearer information with any new training classes that come to SFO.
