Clarification on Vacation Accruals
The vacation accruals for the 2017 vacations we are currently bidding on were from the September 2015 schedule month through the August 2016 schedule month. Since the accruals occurred while we were working solely under the 2012-2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement, a minimum of 97:30 of paid activity was required in each vacation quarter to accrue the full vacation for that quarter.
The vacation accrual for the 2018 vacations began with the September 2016 schedule month and will continue through the August 2017 schedule month. Since we are now accruing vacation based on the provisions of the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement, a minimum of 120:00 of paid activity is required in each vacation quarter to accrue the full vacation for that quarter.
“Fall Behind” – Daylight Savings Ends November 6th
Daylight savings will end on Sunday, November 6th at 2:00 am. Don’t forget to “fall behind” and turn your clocks back 1 hour. Enjoy your extra hour of sleep!

Commending the Flight Crew of American Airlines Flight 383
The AFA-CWA United Master Executive Council is proud to commend our Flight Attendant Sisters and Brothers on American Airlines flight 383 for skillfully representing our profession as Safety Professionals. On Friday October 29, the right-side Boeing 767 aircraft engine failed and became engulfed in flames during an aborted takeoff from Chicago O’Hare bound for Miami, Florida. The 161 passengers and 9 flight crew members were evacuated safely with only a few minor injuries from the evacuation itself.
Aircraft accidents, directly or indirectly, have the potential to cause anxiety for us or our family members. Our confidential peer support system, AFA EAP, is available to any Flight Attendant or family member across the system who may need support at this time. Our confidential AFA EAP hotline number is 800-424-2406.
Industry Update: Join Frontier Airlines in Push for Contract
Our Frontier Airlines Flight Attendant AFA Sisters and Brothers will be protesting at three major airports on Thursday, November 3, 2016, as they press to reach a new Contract.
Frontier recently announced its plan to hire 800 Flight Attendants and 300 Pilots by the end of next year in order to expand to new destinations. Even as the airline grows, the operation has been plagued by operational issues, stemming from its January 2015 decision to outsource thousands of jobs.
If you are in or around any of these cities, we ask that you stand in uniform with our AFA Sisters and Brothers.
