ORD Scheduling Committee Summary – January 2017
The January schedule month is a 31-day bid month, from 12/30-1/29, and includes the New Year’s Day holiday, Sunday 1/1. The January schedule month includes 5 full weekends.
Line averages are very low: 75:32 hours for international lines and 73:50 hours for domestic lines.
International primary lineholders decrease by 52 positions when compared to December; domestic primary lineholders decrease by 47 positions.
There is a major scheduling change after the New Year’s Day holiday weekend affecting both domestic and international flying.
After 1/3, many Europe trips (AMS, BRU, CDG, MUC) go to limited operations during the week.
All Europe trips operate on 767 equipment after 1/3.
GRU, NRT and PVG change to 777 equipment after 1/3.
On account of the Chinese New Year (1/28) holiday, PVG, PEK and HKG do not operate after 1/25. The final January IDs to these stations are 8-day trips overlapping into February.
International flying assigned to ORD compared to November:
- OGG operates on weekends only after 1/3
- ORD covers 6 NRT positions (base ID+1 extra position) and LQ positions
- ORD covers 4 HKG positions (extra positions)
- ORD only covers the early LHR trip
Caribbean and Mexico trips are heavily concentrated during the first week of the schedule month and then decrease for the balance of the month. As usual, this flying is concentrated on weekends.
Domestic flying decreases after 1/6, and is more concentrated during the first week of the month.
Less 2-day flying is assigned to ORD, especially pairings with later departures; more 3 and 4-day trips/LOFs are assigned to ORD when compared to December schedules.
All-nighter flying assigned to ORD is generally reduced compared to previous months.
ORD has more pairings with mixed wide-body/narrow-body flying.
ORD will have 40 reserve lines, with one line having 13 days off and one line having 14 days off.
