Pass Travel Open Enrollment


Eligible employees and retirees have the opportunity to update their elections for enrolled friend, spouse, or domestic partner beginning December 1st through December 30th at 7:00 PM CST

. If you are not making any changes to your enrolled friend, spouse, or domestic partner, no further action is required.

During pass travel enrollment, you can:

  • Choose between a second enrolled friend or regular buddy passes
  • Choose your enrolled friend(s) name(s) or delete them from the system to keep slots open to add later in 2017
  • Choose your regular buddy names or keep slots open to add later in 2017

NOTE:  If you currently have buddy passes for 2016 and registered regular buddy pass riders, the names of the regular buddy pass riders will NOT carry over to 2017 and expire on December 31, 2016 at midnight.

Additional information is available from the Travel section of the company’s website under Enrolled Friend. To update your elections, go to the company’s website then Employee Services > My Info > Pass Riders.  

 


Uniform Points Expire and Discounted Uniform Pieces


As a reminder uniform points, will NOT carry over from year to year. In order to get full use of your annual uniform points, orders must be submitted before the following deadlines:

  • Telephone Orders - Must be placed by 1500 Central Standard Time on Friday, December 30, 2016
  • Online Orders -Must be placed by 1500 Central Standard time on Friday, December 30, 2016 via the Cintas Website or through the link provided on the Resources and Useful Websites section of the AFA United MEC website.

Cintas also currently has discounted uniform pieces available. You can view a list of the discounted items and the reduced prices by visiting the Inflight uniform page on Flying Together. These prices will be available until December 30, 2016, 5pm Central Standard Time.

 


Aflac Open Enrollment

 

Open Enrollment for Aflac/CAIC voluntary supplemental insurance benefits opened December 5, 2016 and will remain open through January 15, 2017.

 

You can visit the Aflac website here, where all enrollment information is available. The site includes instructions on scheduling a call center appointment, a “self-service” enrollment option, plan summaries and rates, and a question and answer document.

 

Insurance plans include Short-Term Disability, Accident, Critical Illness (including cancer coverage), and Hospital Indemnity. Flight Attendants enrolling during this open enrollment will have a February 1, 2017 effective date for their policies.  All policy premiums will be payroll deducted for your convenience. 

 


Legality Review 

Filling of Premium Positions

The process for filling Purser and other premium positions can found in Section 9.F.7 on pages 64-66 of the 2012-2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Within this Section, there is reference to “the Flight Attendant who picked up the position through the open flying process”.  The “note” under Section 9.F.7.c.(3) clarifies that “If the Flight Attendant was assigned the position involuntarily (through drafting or reassignment), she/he is not considered to have picked up the position through the open flying process”.

 

Disappearing/Reappearing Reserve Days

When flying a trip where the scheduled legal rest makes a Flight Attendant unavailable for a Reserve day, that day seems to “disappear” from their line.  Since legal rest is based on actual flight time, if there is a change to the required rest that results in the Flight Attendant being legal for that day, even for only one minute, the Reserve day will “reappear” in their line.  If, when lines are awarded, a lineholder has a trip that overlaps into a reserve month where the legal rest results in a reserve day “disappearing”, that reserve day will not appear in their line until/unless a change in the required legal rest occurs.  If the day in question was not originally supposed to be a scheduled day on reserve, then it will remain as a reserve day off, regardless of legal rest requirements from the lineholder trip.

Example 1:

An ORD lineholder is working a MUC trip that overlaps into their reserve month.  The flight time for the flight from MUC to ORD is scheduled at 10:10 and the duty day after debriefing ends at 16:20 on April 2nd.  This Flight Attendant’s awarded reserve line has a reserve day on April 3rd.  Per Section 12.M.2 of the 2012-2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement, this flight time requires 36 hours of legal rest at home.  The Flight Attendant is not available again until 04:20 on April 4th.  Since this trip was in the Flight Attendant’s line when the reserve line was awarded, and they are not legal on April 3rd due to the required legal rest, that reserve day does not appear when they pull up their line. 

However, when flying the trip, the actual flight time from MUC to ORD winds up at 9:50 and the duty day after debriefing ends at 16:00 on April 2nd.  Per Section 12.M.2 of the 2012-2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Flight Attendant only needs 24 hours of legal rest and is now available at 16:00 on April 3rd.  Since that was a reserve day on, the reserve day “reappears” when they pull up their line.

Example 2:

An ORD lineholder is working a domestic trip that overlaps into their reserve month.  Their duty day after debriefing ends at 10:30 on the last day of their trip on April 2nd.  This Flight Attendant’s awarded reserve line has a reserve day on April 2nd.  The trip is scheduled to have an 8.5/24 upon arrival at home.  Per Section 7.D.2, they are required to have 16 hours rest.  They would not be legal again until 02:30 on April 3rd.  Since this trip was in the Flight Attendant’s line when the reserve line was awarded, and the legal rest requirement prevents them from being assigned another trip on April 2nd, that reserve day does not appear when they pull up their line. 

While flying the trip, one of the flights cancels, and the Flight Attendant is reassigned to deadhead to pick up the balance of their ID.  As a result, they no longer have the 8.5/24.  Per Section 7.J.1, the lineholder now only needs 10 hours of legal rest at home and is legal again at 20:30.  Since that was a reserve day on, the reserve day “reappears” when they pull up their line, and they can be assigned a trip that checks in after the legal rest concludes.
