Flight Attendants to Speak at Congressman Gutiérrez Press Conference on Merger

Date: June 7, 2010

Chicago – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA-CWA) at United Airlines is scheduled to participate in a Monday morning press conference called by Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL-4) in order to focus conversation on worker and passenger concerns in a United/Continental merger. Chicago-based, 25-year Flight Attendant Chris Schlegel is scheduled to speak about the sacrifices she and her fellow crewmembers have made for United to succeed, without receiving in return any assurances the merger will work for them.

“This merger announcement would not even be possible without my hard work and sacrifice, and the merger agreement spells out clearly how it will benefit the executives, but I don’t have any assurances of job protections, continued service to our communities or fair compensation for our work,” states Schlegel in her remarks. “The merger should work for everyone.”
