New MEC Leaders Set Course For Our Future

Date: April 27, 2014

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Competent, confident and capable.   These are the hallmarks of successful leaders.  I am proud to tell you that the new Master Executive Council (MEC) Officers, Committee Chairpersons and Committee Members embody these attributes in every sense.

This week the United Master Executive Council has elected a new Leadership team to take our Flight Attendant community through the next three years, and with your trust and respect, our community is prepared to move forward.  This election insures that Flight Attendants will continue to have a strong voice by engaging management as a solidified Union, to demand that our voices are heard, our sacrifices recognized and our expertise acknowledged.

The elections were part of Spring Master Executive Council Meeting, during which all of our Union's Leaders met to deliberate on Flight Attendant concerns and set a course for our future.  Ken Diaz has been elected to serve as our Master Executive Council President and his Union experience spans over a decade, most recently as the President of Council 5 in New York.  Andreas Curlee will become our MEC Vice President and has served our community of Flight Attendants since 1992.  Jeffrey Heisey, will continue his dedication as our MEC Secretary-Treasurer.  These new Officers and Committee Members will take office on July 1, 2014.  Their individual and collective commitment to our Flight Attendant community is strong, and all our MEC Committees and Local volunteers will support their work.  A complete list of election results will be available on our website later this week.

This election sends a clear and unified message that we are united in our core values, and that our Union is strong today and dedicated to advancing our collective interests.  Moving forward together, we need to demonstrate support and mutual respect for each other.  The strength of our Union is only as strong as our collective commitment to one another, and we will all benefit from increased activism and deeper engagement.

It's no secret that there is a great deal of turmoil at United Airlines and we have significant challenges ahead of us.  By standing together in support of our newly elected Officers and Committees we provide the power to achieve our goals.  The Leaders of our Union are the stewards who work on behalf of each and every United Flight Attendant, every day; and the representation of our collective Solidarity.

I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together and to have had the privilege of representing my fellow flying partners on our common issues throughout the world.  Moving forward, the new Leaders have the power of our strengthened resolve to ensure that United Flight Attendant values and interests are protected and our aspirations achieved.

In Solidarity,

Greg Davidowitch, President
United Master Executive Council
