MEC Communications Committee

MEC Committees and What They Do

The structure of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA is designed to assist and advocate for issues affecting the Membership. At United Airlines, we have sixteen (16) Local Councils around the world all with leaders that have been elected by the Membership at the Local Council to represent their interests. These locally elected leaders also need support to do their daily work at that level.  They elect Members from around the system who are Subject Matter Experts (SME) to help facilitate information that is consistent throughout all sixteen bases.

For example, at the Local level, there are Reserve Committee representatives who assist Members with Reserve issues that affect that specific location. At the Master Executive Council (MEC) level, the Reserve Committee monitors and assists Local Councils with Reserve issues that affect the Membership at all sixteen (16) locations.

In order for the MEC Committees to assist the Local Council, they must not only know how the Local Council representatives perform their responsibilities, but also help educate the Local Council representatives about the responsibilities, duties, and expectations of their Committee. They have the knowledge and understanding of the Contract to apply these skills to every day scenarios out on the line.
