Veterans Day - Sunday, November 11 (Observed November 12, 2018)
November 9, 2018
Each year on November 11, we remember and honor all who have served and sacrificed for our country in war and in peace. This year, because November 11th is a Sunday, Veterans Day will be observed on Monday, November 12, 2018.
Veterans Day was originally named Armistice Day commemorating the end of World War 1. Congress later amended the word Armistice to Veterans after World War 2 and the Korean War. This year’s Veterans Day marks the Centennial Commemoration of the end of World War 1 on November 11, 1918.
There are many things we can do to commemorate and show our appreciation to members of our military, past, present and future. Consider volunteering with Veterans’ programs or at a Veterans Administration (VA) hospital or proudly fly the American Flag. Taking care of our Veterans is our sacred responsibility. While doing these types of things are important, it is critical that we all find ways to return Veterans as an active participant in our communities as they transition from military service to civilian life.
