The article published on January 26, 2018, titled July CQ “Due” or “Must Go” Training Reassignments for those who Travel to CQ generated a number of questions about the change to the training schedule and the subsequent impact on Flight Attendants.  It is important to remember that it is the company who schedules training and assigns the number of available slots at each location.  For those affected, this change presents some challenges and requires certain decisions be made.  And, while perhaps unpopular, management has communicated specific reasons for these changes – maximizing revenue during our peak travel season while reducing the number of days Flight Attendants will be out of schedule during a schedule month where “all hands on deck” is necessary.

Having said this, while AFA was not able to stop the company from making the changes to the July training allocations for Flight Attendants who travel to training, AFA was actively involved at protecting Flight Attendants access to training over a the full ninety (90) day period.  It was about ensuring Flight Attendants had options and were permitted to use their seniority to access the options available.

The plan ONLY affects Flight Attendants who must travel to another base to attend CQ - HNL, LAS, FRA, HKG, NRT, LAX, DCA/IAD and BOS.

Flight Attendants who must travel from their base to another location for training will be required to re-bid their “due” or “must go” CQ training month from July to a month earlier in the calendar year to ensure regulatory compliance. The available months to bid are March 2018, April 2018 and May 2018.    If you have a July “must go” or “due” month and do not bid, you will be assigned in inverse order of seniority, starting with the earliest month.

For those Flight Attendants with a June or August “due” month we sought to ensure the option to move from those months, if desired, since no travel to training will be permitted in July.  The impact of the travel restriction is different for the June and August “must go” attendees.  For example, June ‘must go’ would not have a July ‘grace month’ in which to attend while August “must go” attendees would not have a July “may go” month. However, we insisted the company provide opportunities for Flight Attendants in these two months to make a change, at their option, to ensure they were provided the full ninety (90) day window for training was available to them.

The following chart is designed to provide specific information for each pre-merger group based on the respective “Must Go” or CQ Due month.  For example, starting from the left of the chart, if you are a pre-merger United Flight Attendant with a June Must Go or Due month, click on the JUNE schedule month box marked (a), to review your options.

Note: If you are on a Leave of Absence status at the time of the award, you will not be assigned a new “due” or “must go” month.

Without regard to pre-merger affiliation, bidding will open, close and post based on the following schedule with all bids being awarded in base seniority order.

CQ due month Bids Open: Tuesday January 23, 2018 at 1200 CST
CQ due month Bid Close: Monday February 05, 2018 at 0700 CST
CQ due month Bids Posted:  No later than February 06, 2018 at 0700 CST.
