KCM – It’s a Privilege.
April 10, 2018
The government-approved Known Crewmember (KCM) program is a privilege which provides Flight Attendants and Pilots at many airlines access to the convenience of expedited security screening.
Participating Crew Members are allowed access to sterile areas of the airport through a dedicated crew portal. AFA worked with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to ensure that Flight Attendants were included in this vital program of trusted individuals with this unique privilege.
To be clear, the continued success of the program depends heavily upon all Crew Members demonstrating that they can be trusted to comply with all related requirements. In recent weeks, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has brought to our attention a number of violations of the KCM requirements. We must be aware and ever vigilant; such conduct, can jeopardize Flight Attendants of the privilege to participate in the program and consequently jeopardizes the entire Known Crew Member (KCM) program.
Therefore, we urge Flight Attendants to review the following program rules upon which our continue access to these dedicate security portal rely. Details of the KCM policy may be found in the E-lines publication dated April 3, 2018 and on the TSA website.
