(pmUAL) – Transition Changes to Make-up Sick & Occupational Leave

Date: August 10, 2018

Effective Oct. 1, 2018, Flight Attendants will have the ability to make up hours lost due to illness or injury during the same month will not have these hours deducted from either their Sick or Occupational Injury leave banks (OI) as provided for in Section 13.A.6.of the JCBA. This change reflects a transition toward the methodology previously used by pmCAL Flight Attendants and uses a phased in approach which gradually transitions pmUAL Flight Attendants to a process where make-up of sick leave occurs only on the month where sick leave was used.

As mentioned, this is predominantly a change in process for pmUA Flight Attendants.  Highlights as to how this change will be phased in for pmUA Flight Attendants are as follows:

August 2018

August is final bid month where Sick and OI hours used in the current as well as prior two (2) schedule months bid months, i.e. June 2018, July 2018 and August 2018 can be made up.

September 2018

During September, Sick and OI hours used in the current bid month and from the prior bid month, i.e. August 2018 and September 2018, can be made up.

October 2018

Full implementation of Section 13.A.6 will be effective at which time Flight Attendants may elect to make up Sick and OI hours taken within the same bid month. Sick hours made up during the same schedule month will not be deducted from the Flight Attendant’s sick leave bank.
