AFA Resources for Hurricane Dorian

Date: August 30, 2019

Hurricane Dorian is continuing to build and continues to move northwest through the Atlantic. Current forecasts are calling for Dorian to make landfall early Tuesday morning on the Florida coast near Palm Beach as a category 4 hurricane.

The Network Operations Center is tracking the storm and will be making schedule adjustments to ensure the safety of our customers, employees and aircraft. A travel waiver is in place for all of the stations in the forecast path of the storm through Wednesday Sept 4. Additionally, we have added extra flights out of south Florida on Saturday to provide more capacity for people looking to leave the area. United’s Emergency Response and Global Community Engagement teams are on standby to provide any needed response after the storm hits.

We are conducting pre-event wellness checks with employees in the storm’s path. Please stay safe, follow extreme weather procedures, watch your company messages and schedules closely, and do keep in touch with your supervisors if you need support. Hurricane Dorian continues to gain intensity in the Bahamas, Your AFA Leadership and United’s Network Operations Center and will continue to monitor the storm and partner with stations to make schedule decisions accordingly.

The National Hurricane Center reports an increasing likelihood of life-threatening storm surge along portions of the Florida east coast late this weekend or early next week. Residents should have their hurricane plan in place and know if they are in a hurricane evacuation zone. Stay safe and always listen to advice given by local emergency officials.

Hundreds of thousands of people could be affected including members of our AFA Flight Attendant family. AFA EAP is always available at 800-424-2406.

Our AFA Disaster Relief Fund aids AFA Members and retirees who have suffered significant damage and/or relocation as a result of a disaster. For those of us outside the disaster area, we can help the most by donating to the AFA Disaster Relief Fund where our contributions can provide lifesaving assistance to those who need it the most.
