Family & Medical Leave Make-Up to Restore Days Toward 78 Day FML Allocation

Date: August 30, 2019

Section 15.I.6.

Our Contract provides for up to 78 days of Family & Medical Leave in any twelve-month period as well as for the make-up of sick & family medical leave.

A lineholder may pick up open time when she/he is able to return to work for a portion of the days of a pairing which was dropped for FML or sick leave. The day(s) overlapping the pairing(s) dropped for sick or FMIL will have the overlapping days actually worked restored to her/ his 78-day FML allocation.

For example, a Flight Attendant who used FML for a three-day pairing who is subsequently able to return to work on day three of the pairing, may do so by making up FML. She/he may make up one day of FML by picking up open time on day three. As a result, one day will be restored to the allotted 78 days of FML.

Please review this previous One United article that details the process Flight Attendants must follow when making up FML.Section 15.I. also has more details and other potential options that support the judicious use of FML days.
