Designation of FLEX Vacation Days at the End of Vacation Bidding

Date: September 27, 2019

The 2020 Vacation Guide advises Flight Attendants how FLEX vacation days will be identified for those who elect FLEX vacation, either paid or unpaid.  You may recall, in previous years, FLEX vacation days were designated as part of the first vacation period of the vacation year.  You will also recall that FLEX vacation days are included as part of your full vacation allocation.  For example, if you have 40 days of vacation and elect seven (7) days of FLEX vacation, your total vacation allocation is 47 days.  When you bid those 47 days, there is not designator that indicates which of those 47 days are FLEX days when bidding. It is only after all vacation is awarded are the days designated as FLEX days.

As a result of certain tax regulations, it was necessary to change which days would be designated as FLEX days. Effective this year, FLEX days will be identified as the last vacation days of the last awarded vacation period for the vacation year.
