Geopolitical Events of the Day
January 8, 2020
MEC Safety Health & Security Committee
While the political unrest and events that are unfolding in the Middle East appear to be contained to that region of the world, as a crewmember working for a U.S. carrier, we should always use caution while on layover anywhere in the world.
Situational awareness is critically important to our safety and wellbeing. It’s prudent to avoid all large gatherings such as any protests, rallies or even with mass public attendance. Avoid wearing clothing that will easily identify you as either a crewmember or a U.S. citizen.
We recommend that you avoid traveling alone anywhere in the world. If it is necessary that you do so, ensure that another Member of your crew knows where you are going and when you are expected to return. Carry your passport with you at all times. If you have a telephone plan with global service, keep that with you at all times and be certain another Member of your crew has the telephone number should it be necessary to reach you on short notice.
Your MEC Safety, Health & Security Committee, working with United’s Corporate Security Department, will continue to monitor worldwide events and ensure that you have any necessary information for your continued safety.
