Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Immortal words spoken by a true leader and activist…
“I say to you today, my friends, though, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
January 20, 2020, we come together to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK Day stands in history to pay tribute to his efforts in equal rights, diversity, and his voice as a strong advocate for labor unions.
While we celebrate the life and legacy of this man, one day a year is simply not sufficient to honor a man who gave his life for the betterment of his fellow man. Collectively as Members of a greater Labor Union, we carry his message forward each day. We continue his work as we strive together to accomplish equality in all things for all people. Our collective strength far outweighs the strength of any individual. It is by standing together, we will accomplish real change. This is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Transfers Awarded January 17, 2020
System Transfers were awarded today to nine bases on the system as follows:
Flight Attendants must accept any transfer within seven (7) days. This round of transfers is effective for the March 2020 schedule month which begins on 3/1/2020.
Please be sure to check your transfer screen so as not to miss any opportunity.
Bidding for Language Qualified Lines of Flying
In light of the recent bidding enhancements for Flight Attendants, a trend needs to be brought to the attention of Flight Attendants bidding for language qualified lines. Some language qualified Flight Attendants are incorrectly bidding using the ANY FA position bid by bidding the language lines and then changing the bid position default to ‘ANY’ or ‘ANY FA’. This should not be done as the action of changing the bid position default creates an invalid bid because there are no Flight Attendant positions associated with language lines. The default position should be left at “ANY”.

AFA-CWA Union Dues Play a Vital Role in Negotiations
MEC Communications Committee
We all work together to support the programs that benefit and advance our careers and our profession. We are AFA and our Union dues dollars are is the way we all chip in and collectively contribute to defend and advance our careers.
As we prepare for the upcoming Contract 2021 Negotiations, questions have arisen as to what percentage of our Union dues are dedicated to negotiations. The chart displays show how all Union dues at AFA are allocated to each area of critical importance for each of our Members.
Union dues budgeted for negotiations make it possible for the Members of our Negotiating Committee who will be bargaining for Flight Attendant’s pay and working conditions to listen to the items that are important for each of us. Negotiations is a core representational activity of our Union, that is, making and defending our Contracts. In addition to the Committee’s other responsibilities, the end result is improved contract language ultimately improving pay, benefits and working conditions.
Changes to Preflight Safety Checks - eFAOM Revision 31
MEC Safety, Health and Security Committee
eFAOM Revision 31 was announcedin the January 15, 2020 Inflight Services Weekly and became available for download on January 16, 2020. The contents of the revision become effective February 1, 2020.
Of significance, revision 31 outlines the changes to our current practice of conducting preflight safety checks. As Safety Professionals, we know the critical importance of having the required equipment in the correct location and functioning properly in order to effectively handle emergencies should the occasion arise.
Beginning February 1, 2020, Flight Attendants will conduct Preflight Safety Checks using the eFAOMon Link. Additionally, each Flight Attendant’s assigned position will have individual assigned Preflight Checks rather than zonal checks, which will take less time to complete. The change ensures preflight safety check compliance, as well as increased accuracy and efficiency of the equipment checks.
Please contact your Local Council Safety, Health & Security Committee with any questions.
