GUM Surplus Process Proceeds – Special COLAs Awarded
Special COLAs running through October 2021 for Flight Attendants based on GUM were processed on Monday of this week as one of the first steps in processing the surplus of 75 Flight Attendants from GUM. These Special COLAs include the end part of the December schedule month as well. Those Special COLAs awarded senior to those subject to surplus will reduce the number of Flight Attendants impacted by the surplus.
Flight Attendants impacted by the surplus, that is, subject to surplus, may participate in the Special COLA but will still need to participate in the surplus procedure and will be reassigned to their new base. If not offered the opportunity to return to GUM while on the Special COLA, these Flight Attendants will report to their new base location at the conclusion of the Special COLA.
Currently, bids are open for the System Transfer award that closes at 2359 HDT on November 24, 2020 and will be awarded at 8:00AM CT on November 25, 2020. The System Transfer award is open to Flight Attendants at all domiciles on the system. Domicile vacancies are posted here.
As a reminder for those Flight Attendants on GUM, whether you accept a System Transfer or are required by your seniority to participate in the surplus transfer bid, you are eligible for the benefits of the published Transfer and Moving policy.
If you have additional questions on the published surplus, please contact your Local Council office.

Pass Travel Enrollment Period is Open through December 18, 2020
Pass travel enrollment is open now through Dec. 18, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CT.
All eligible employees having more than six months of active service, VSP, COLA participants and employees who were furloughed in 2020 are able to update their 2021 pass travel enrollment elections during this window.
Employees may register a second enrolled friend during the pass rider enrollment period for the next calendar year. In this case, the buddy pass allotment, the 12 regular buddies, will not be available but will continue to be available for extended family buddies for that calendar year.
To enroll and update you pass riders, visit the Pass Travel Enrollment page. Click on the Travel tab at the top of Flying Together and select manage pass riders.
Changes cannot be made after the enrollment window closes except to add buddy pass riders if you do not already have the maximum number listed. If you have additional questions, contact the Employee Travel Team.
Fraudulent Unemployment Claims
We have recently received reports from Flight Attendants that some have become a victim of identity theft or have had fraudulent unemployment claims submitted in their names. United Airlines has acknowledged that the Illinois Department of Employment Services has alerted the corporation that this is, in fact, taking place.
If you become aware that unemployment claims have been submitted in your name, access the website of your state unemployment agency. Submit a fraud report always being certain to use restraint when providing your social security number of other personal information.
The internal security measures to verify your identity and the veracity of the claim generally stops the unemployment claim payments from being made even before the affected employee becomes aware the claim has been made. However, in those limited circumstances where claims are processed, early reporting of the fraud and not activating any debit card received at your home address are essential in the prompt and complete resolution of this issue.
Reserve Bid Month Timeline.
MEC Reserve Committee
If awarded or assigned a Reserve line for the December bid month, there are various deadlines that must be met as part of the schedule development timeline. Many of these processes occur during the period between bid awards and in to the first week of the new month.
While some of these events occur on the same calendar date each month, there are a few that are determined based on the date on which the new Flight Attendant schedule bid month begins. Schedule months are defined by the company on an annual basis with the result being these dates may change from month to month. We have compiled a Reserve bid month timeline detailing these items in both calendar and list formats.
