United Suspends Service to Mainland China – Maintains SFO HKG Service

Date: February 2, 2020

Today, United announced the suspension of all service between our hub cities and Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai through March 28 in response to ongoing concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus. The reductions to CTU, PEK and PVG begins tomorrow on February 1. Our last departure from CTU will be on February 3, and on February 4 for PEK and PVG.

United will continue to operate select flights to help ensure our U.S. based employees, as well as customers, have options to return home.  This will include the continued operation of one daily flight between San Francisco and Hong Kong. Consistent with our code of corporate values, the safety of our customers and employees remains the highest of priorities.  United will work to maintain the flexibility and agility to respond to changing circumstance and we will all continue to monitor the situation for further developments.

United and our MEC Safety, Health & Security Committee remains in contact with public health experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, as well as with senior officials in the United States government.
