U.S. President Suspends Travel from Europe, except the UK, for Thirty Days

Date: March 11, 2020

As many of us tuned into our television sets to watch President Trump deliver an address to the nation from the Oval Office, we learned of his decision to suspend all travel from Europe for the next thirty days.  Citing concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus in Europe, travel restrictions were imposed for all of Europe with the exception of travel to/from the United Kingdom. Travel restrictions are set to become effective this Friday at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

We understand that this news is disturbing for all of us and creates a number of questions for which immediate answers are not available.  Be assured, your MEC Officers will be meeting with Senior leadership of the corporation first thing tomorrow morning in Chicago.  We will continue our advocacy on your behalf as we seek to improve our understanding of the impact of these most recent decisions.

It is understandable that you have questions and it is reasonable for us to feel different levels of anxiety based on our individual circumstances.  In times of adversity, we come together to support and encourage each other.   Let's reach out to each other to offer support and reassurance.  If you need someone to talk to, keep in mind our EAP/Professional Standards volunteers are always here to offer assistance, support and a friendly ear.  Don't hesitate to call your Local Council EAP Volunteers.  In addition, we have representatives available 24 hours a day at 800 424 2406.
