"Real ID" U.S. Drivers’ License Compliance Extended to October, 2021

Date: April 14, 2020

To heighten airline safety and security, Congress adopted a 9/11 Commission recommendation in 2005 and passed the REAL ID Act requiring all states to adopt uniform security standards when issuing drivers' licenses. Although the original deadline for compliance was set for October of 2020, the Department of Homeland Security has now extended the deadline by one year, October of 2021.
