Cares Act $600 Dollar Extended Unemployment Benefit Expires July 31, 2020

Date: July 18, 2020

MEC Government Affairs Committee

Flight Attendants currently receiving unemployment are reminded that the  $600 supplemental benefit under the CARES Act will expire on July 31, 2020 which will result in a reduction in their weekly benefit amount.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act”) was signed into law on March 27, 2020. The $2.2 trillion package included various provisions increasing and expanding unemployment insurance benefits available to Flight Attendants unable to work due to COVID-19.

Our MEC Government Affairs committee is currently advocating for Congress to extend the provisions of the CARES Act.
We are calling for a six-month aviation Payroll Support Program extension through March 31, 2021, to protect our jobs, extend the restrictions on stock buybacks, dividends, and executive compensation, and maintain service to all our communities. All of aviation labor is standing together to call on Congress to pass a clean extension of the Payroll Support Program before their summer recess at the end of July.
