AFA Employee Assistance Program Working for You!
November 5, 2021
This week, our MEC Employee Assistance Program/Professional Standards (EAP) Committee conducted their annual committee training for AFA volunteers throughout our system.
Our dedicated trained professionals will continue their efforts for each of us in our Local Councils. We congratulate them on the completion of the training and thank them for their dedication to supporting and educating our fellow flying partners.
For over 35 years, trained AFA Flight Attendants have provided AFA members, their partners, and family members with support and assistance to deal with a wide range of concerns including:
- Relationships/Family Struggles
- Chemical Dependency/Addiction Issues
- Emotional/Physical Concerns
- Work Stressors
- Financial/Legal Stressors
- Conflicts with Flying Partners
- Recovery after Critical Incidents
- Alcohol and Drug Test Questions
Who better to understand a Flight Attendant’s concerns than another Flight Attendant?
These volunteers provide peer-to-peer service that is truly confidential. By confiding in these AFA volunteers that you have a substance abuse concern, a mental health issue, or a conflict with a co-worker will not result in a company investigation, a company monitoring, or a last chance agreement. You will simply get the help you need just as you would for any other concern or health issue with no job jeopardy attached.
And, when our AFA EAP peers need professional guidance to ensure that you get the best possible recommendations and referrals for your situation, we reach out to our own AFA EAP Director, a licensed mental health professional, for that little extra guidance when needed. As a reminder, the best part of utilizing this benefit is that it is free, confidential, and just a phone call away at (800) 424-2406.
