Rapid Testing Requirements

Date: May 18, 2021

As the demand for travel rebuilds and International destinations re-open for visitors from other countries, pre-departure and/or arrival COVID-19 testing is becoming part of our “new normal.” Testing requirements and travel restrictions are established at the discretion of each country, and because of these being set locally, they are subject to change with minimal notice. Flight Attendants have had real challenges in keeping track of the changes and their associated effective dates.   To assist Flight Attendants and pilots in keeping informed of these ever-changing requirements, United has developed a resource center specific to International testing and restrictions.

AFA, ALPA and United have been working in unison to develop the processes and operational plans to provide pre-departure rapid COVID-19 tests for both Flight Attendants and pilots. This pre-departure testing for crews is intended to limit the risk of a positive result from an arrival test required by foreign authorities.  By reducing this risk, the effort is designed to reduce the possibility of having to quarantine as a result of a positive test result while you are away from home.  The safety and security of our Members remains a top AFA priority as travel demand returns to pre-pandemic levels.   We are in this together.
