Family and Medical Leave Make-Up to Restore Days Toward 78 DAY FML Allocation
August 17, 2021
Our Contract, Section 15.I.6., provides for up to 78 days of Family & Medical Leave in any twelve-month period as well as for the make-up of Sick and Family Medical Leave.
A Lineholder may pick up open time when they are able to return to work for a portion of the days of a pairing which was dropped for FML or Sick Leave usage.
The days(s) overlapping the pairing(s) dropped for Sick Leave or FML will have the overlapping day(s) worked restored to their 78-day FML allocation.
For example, A Flight Attendant who utilized FML for a three-day pairing and is subsequently able to return to work on the third day of the pairing, may do so by making up FML. They make up one day of FML by picking up open time on that third day. As a result, one day will be restored to the allotted 78 days of FML. As a reminder, you may review the Contract Section 15.I.6., along with the “One United” news article that details the process Flight Attendant must follow when making up FML, including more details about other potential options that support the judicious use of FML days.
