Preparing for Father's Day - June 19th!
June 10, 2022
In 1909, Sonora Scott Dodd conceptualized the creation of Father's Day during that period in our nation’s history when Mother’s Day was being established as a holiday. Sonora’s father, a civil war veteran who celebrated his birthday in June, raised her and her five siblings following the death of their mother in childbirth. In 1972, President Richard Nixon designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day is recognized in a number of other countries around the world.
On this day, we honor fatherhood and recognize not only this important paternal bond but the influence of fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other significant men in our lives who have had a significant influence on each of us and our society.
