Incentive Pay Rates – Applicable Quarters and Payment Schedule

Date: September 1, 2022

The September bid month marks the last month in the third quarter of the incentive pay rate schedule. As the booming summer travel season approaches an end, it is an excellent time to review how Incentive Pay Rates are calculated and compensated.

Section 4.B.1. of our Contract provides that Flight Attendants will be paid an additional $5.00/hour (Incentive Pay Rates) for all block hours flown in excess of two hundred hours (200:00) per calendar quarter, including vacation and deadhead, to a maximum of three hundred and thirty hours (330:00), except that no incentive pay will apply for block hours flown in excess of one hundred and ten (110:00) hours in a bid month.

The calendar quarters are defined as follows:

Incentive payments will reflect in our pay register as a line item in the third month of each quarter and are paid, consistent with the payroll schedule, in the following month.

When calculating the value of the incentive payment, the company reviews the following data fields for the flying month in question in calculating the hours to which the incentive rate is applied:

  • Actual block hours flown
  • Deadhead
  • Vacation pay, including vacation fly through

The following is one such example of how the incentive hours for the quarter are calculated:
