The 2023 Reserve Christmas Wish List (RCWL) season has concluded, during which a total of 613 Reserves from across the system were granted their Christmas layover “wish”; a new record! Consistent with the terms of our Contract, Reserve Flight Attendants were able to preference up to four (4) layover stations where they wished to be on and around the holiday. If legal and available, requests were awarded in Inflight seniority order.
This year, following a months-long development and testing, new automation was put in place to reduce the manual workload and optimize the number of wishes granted. While we found areas that could still be improved for next year, the record number of awards speaks for itself. Below is a breakdown of the RCWL awards by location.

Note: Not all locations could be awarded wishes during the process. The ability to award Christmas Wish List requests depends on the amount of Open Time available during the RCWL period at each location, as well as the number of legal and available Reserves with matching requests on file. Also, since RCWL is limited to evaluating layovers only, those locations with a higher percentage of turns assigned will not see as many wishes awarded.
Finally, we acknowledge the hard work and commitment of the company’s IT Analytics team and Inflight Crew Scheduling personnel who worked with us and, at times, went above and beyond to ensure as many wishes as possible were granted. Although relations with management in other areas have not always been so in recent months, this was a truly cooperative and collaborative experience.
