Avoid Use of The Jet Bridge as a Passenger Staging Area Including Quick Turns
May 2, 2023
Staging passengers on the jet bridge, including on quick turn flights, should be avoided.
The company and AFA have consistently emphasized through safety communications to Flight Attendants that the use of the jet bridge as a passenger staging or holding area before boarding is strictly prohibited and this is particularly important given our record passenger volumes.
In addition to posing a safety hazard, staging passengers on the jet bridge goes against United's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and this includes flights categorized as "quick turns" or "star" flights.
During the pre-departure briefing, the Flight Attendant in the Purser position, and the Customer Service Representative (CSR) are responsible to collaborate and coordinate the boarding process. If there are any difficulties in establishing boarding times, Flight Attendants are advised to utilize their CRM skills to resolve the issue. It is crucial to prioritize safety over convenience, and Flight Attendants should always advocate for what is safest.
