System Transfers Effective for August Awarded

System transfers effective for the August schedule month, which begins on July 30, 2023, were awarded yesterday.

Flight Attendants awarded transfers can view awards in CCS under the transfer request page. We are advised by management this is NOT the final list of transfers awards Flight Attendants must accept the award in CCS before the acceptance deadline in order for the transfer to be effective. 

Flight Attendants who decline the opportunity to transfer or who fail to respond to the award will be subject to a three month transfer restriction as outlined in our Contract – Section 17.A.2.

Harvard Flight Attendant Health Study Survey

The Harvard Flight Attendant Health Study began in 2007 and is the largest ongoing study of flight crew well-being. The research group will be launching the 4th wave of the study on June 21, 2023. The success of this research will be instrumental for airlines, unions, crew members, and retirees in ongoing efforts to ensure the well-being of those doing this work that is vitally importance for the economic health of the communities serve across the globe.

The goal is to understand the prevalence of health conditions in current and retired U.S. and international flight crew and the relationship/prevalence of these conditions with working conditions – especially in light of the pandemic and its aftermath - in order to resolve some of the stressors in Flight Attendant work that can to early-onset illness and other diseases.

Reciprocal Cabin Seat Agreements Reminder

With the peak summer travel season quickly approaching, knowing your options to get you to your destination will be extremely helpful in light of the highly anticipated passenger volumes. Knowing these options will support dependability in getting to work and, at the same time, the operation. One of the travel choices we have access to is the Reciprocal Cabin Seat Agreements.

United Flight Attendants with a crew badge have access to free, space-available economy seating on carriers who have established reciprocal cabin seat agreements with United Airlines. The agreements allow Flight Attendants the ability to occupy an available cabin seat on that carrier and, in exchange, United has agreed to “reciprocate” and accommodates Flight Attendants of these other airlines who are then able to occupy available cabin seats on United aircraft. 

Reciprocal cabin seat agreements guidelines are unique by airline, including listing procedures, attire, and check-in requirements. The individual carrier policies and procedures for listing are available by visiting either the Reciprocal Travel Agreements page of www.unitedafa.org or by reviewing the travel section of United’s Policy and Procedures. 

Note: It is important to clarify that these are cabin seat agreements, not cabin jumpseat (CJA) agreements. 

AFA Welcomes Class 2315!

On behalf of your Union, we extend a warm welcome to the newest Members of our Flight Attendant family. We are thrilled to have the new flying partners on board, and we look forward to working together to ensure that our airline remains continues to set industry standards.

Our newest flying partners will begin their careers at our domiciles in BOS, IAD, and SFO.

Their professionalism, in-depth understanding of our experiences, and eagerness to be part of our community are all sources of encouragement for us. We firmly believe that these new members will enhance our profession with their unique talents and abilities, thereby strengthening our collective expertise. Please join us in welcoming them to our ranks as they join us on the line next week.

Please remember that our newest Members are on probation. To ensure that they receive the most accurate information to support them, direct them to their AFA Local Council for assistance on Contractual issues.

We encourage you to welcome each of them, help them learn from your experience, and get them started on a path to success and adventure in their new career.
