Recent publications addressing Special Qualifications have generated a number of questions regarding the number of Special Qualification hours required when picking up or trading for open time outside the Special Qualification.

Special Qualified Flight Attendants who wish to trade with or pick up from open time must have fifty (50) hours, [twenty (20) hours for job shares, partnerships & half month leaves] in their Special Qualification time (either International Purser or language) based on her/his awarded line of flying at the end of the bid month.

For example, a LQ Flight Attendant will be expected to have a minimum fifty (50) hours [twenty (20) for job shares, partnerships and half month leaves] of flying in their assigned language at the end of the bid month if they have traded or picked up from open time other than LQFA open time during the month.   It is not necessary for these hours to be part of the Special Qualified Flight Attendants line prior to trading or picking up from open time. However, it is required to be on the Flight Attendant’s line by the end of the bid month.

If you have additional questions regarding Special Qualification hours required at the end of the month when trading or picking up open time from other than the Special Qualification line awarded, please contact your Local Council Office.
