AFA is proud to celebrate Black History Month.

Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African American History Month.  It has received official recognition in February of each year from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom when it is observed in October.

In 2019, the AFA Executive Board passed a resolution recognizing Black History Month making a commitment to educate where we pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American Society.

In our own community of Flight Attendants, we need not look far outside of our own Membership to find examples of those who were part of this struggle and who dedicated their lives to the service of others. To help celebrate and educate, diversity and inclusion pins were a concept put forward by AFA Members through the AFA structure where we now have a PRIDE pin and a Black History Month pin.

Pick up your pin from your Local Council and look for AFA's focus on Black History throughout the month of February.
