Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month is a time of great significance, beginning on September 15th and ending on October 15th. During this month, we celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic communities and cultures worldwide.
This celebration, also known as National Hispanic Heritage Month, initially started as Hispanic Heritage Week when it first became federally recognized in 1968. In 1988, it was expanded from a week-long event to a month-long celebration.
We truly believe that embracing and celebrating each other’s differences makes us stronger and more united as a community. America was founded by a melting pot of cultures and people, making it the diverse country it is now. Let's seize this opportunity to pay tribute to Hispanic and Latinx heritage, an essential part of our global family.
In 2021, the AFA-CWA Executive Board passed a Resolution recognizing Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month along with the design of an AFA pin. You can read the complete text of the resolution by clicking here.
During Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, Local Councils will distribute the AFA pins for Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. You are encouraged to pick up this pin and wear it in Solidarity as we work together to accomplish diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce.
