WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 4, 2020) — Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) President Sara Nelson, representing 50,000 Flight Attendants at 20 airlines including United, released the following statement on United Airlines capacity reduction in the New York City area:

"We applaud United Airlines' move to essential service only out of Newark and LaGuardia. This is what we've been calling for, and what should be happening across the system.

"Our first job is to stop the spread of the virus. Aviation has a role to play in that but there’s a clear line. Essential service to our communities is important, but not one flight more than necessary. Lives first. Continued jobs and paychecks make it possible to keep the industry intact so we can take off again once the virus is contained."
