**Correction** Procedures for Calling On & Off Sick Leave Lineholders & Reserve

Written by Admin | Feb 23, 2019 6:00:00 AM

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019 we inadvertently published incorrect information concerning the procedures for calling on & off sick leave and the specifics when calculating the days on sick leave. The correct information follows and we regret any confusion this may have caused.

For clarification purposes, when calling on sick leave the clock starts on the first day of your pairing/assignment or Reserve day, even if you place yourself on sick leave prior to the first day of your pairing/assignment or Reserve day. The clock will continue to run from the first date of your pairing/assignment or Reserve day and continues through the day you call off sick leave, and includes any days off that may fall within the time period of the sick call.

You may place yourself on sick leave in one of two ways:

1.    Call the Flight Attendant Support Team, FAST, and follow the prompts or,

2.    Use CCS no later than 0900 Home domicile time (HDT) the day prior to the flight assignment or Reserve day of availability.

When you have recovered from your illness or injury and are ready to return to work, as a lineholder you are required to call the Flight Attendant Support Team (FAST) to call off sick leave status. You are required to do this as soon as possible but no later than eight (8) hours prior to departure of your next flight assignment.

As a Reserve, you must call the FAST to take yourself off sick leave status.  When you call off sick leave is important, as provided for by the language is Section 8.F.4. as follows:

1.    If you call off sick leave prior to 1600, you will be given an assignment for the next day via the Reserve Preference system via the 1930 automated communication system and online,

2.    If you call off sick leave between 1600 and 1930, you will be given an assignment via the 1930 automated communication and online system.

3.    If you call off sick leave after 1930 and up to 2400, you will be given an assignment at the time of the call.

4.    A Flight Attendant calling off sick leave after midnight shall be considered to be on sick leave for the calendar day.

Once you have called on sick leave, it is no longer necessary to call on sick leave for each subsequent flight assignment or Reserve day of availability. The system will recognize that you remain on sick leave for each subsequent flight assignment or Reserve day of availability until you call off sick leave.

It is important for Flight Attendants to realize they may call on sick leave for multiple flight assignments at the same time and authorize the release of those flight assignments to open time if you know that you will be away from work for an extended period of time.

To contact the Flight Attendant Support Team (FAST) to call on or off sick leave, dial 1 800 FLT LINE and then select option 4, then 1.
