On Sunday, March 13, 2022, we will “Spring Ahead” as we make the transition to U.S. Daylight Savings Time at 2:00AM.  It is important to recognize that this is the day where we get one hour less sleep and, if on a flight assignment, a one-hour shorter layover.

As provided for in Section 6.V.3.d., our layover minimum rest (off duty period) may be reduced by one hour when such off-duty period extends to or beyond 0200 Standard Time on the designated day when the change is made from Standard Time to Daylight Time, unless such reduction would result in a legal result below the established FAA minimum.

Remember, this is the shorter layover.  Don’t forget to set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night to recognize the change to Daylight Savings Time.

Note: Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation where daylight savings time is observed on tribal lands), Hawaii, and the overseas territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands do not observe the change to Daylight Saving Time.
