As we reported in the February Reserve Report, it was discovered that the Reserve Preference System platform (Studio) and the CCS Reserve Availability screen were each incorrectly determining FIFO at different points in the bid month:

Studio was incorrectly determining FIFO during the schedule month by using logic that is Contractually only to be used at the beginning of the schedule month.

CCS is incorrectly determining FIFO at the beginning of the schedule month by using logic that is Contractually only to be used during the schedule month.

To be clear, the Contractually appropriate FIFO ordering is as follows:

  • At the beginning of the schedule monthSection 8.C.2.of the Contract provides FIFO order is based on the scheduled arrival time of the Reserves' last previous "pairing(s)".
  • During the schedule monthSection 8.C.3.of the Contract provides FIFO order is based on the Reserves' last previous "assignment."

We were recently informed that a fix for the FIFO ordering issue in Studio was loaded into the system, however, a fix for the FIFO order that appears on the Reserve Availability screen in CCS is still being developed. Until that work is completed, the Availability list will only display the FIFO order based on a Reserves' last previous "assignment”, even at the beginning of the month. Therefore, there will be a period of time at the beginning of each new bid month where the order Flight Attendants see on the list may not match the order used by the Reserve Preferencing system. This difference will make it more difficult for Flight Attendants to determine their actual position on the list during the Reserve Preferencing process for the time being, however, it was important to ensure the actual order of assignment was corrected as soon as possible.

NOTE: Manual assignments, including clean-up, releasing and Ready Reserve, will continue to use the order displayed in CCS. Schedulers do not have access to the ordering used in Studio.

We will continue to monitor the progress of the ongoing work. Please contact your Local Council Reserve Committee if you have additional questions.
