MEC Human Rights & Equity Committee
At AFA, we have a strong history of being unwavering advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion within our industry. Recent changes at the White House, including the issuance of multiple executive orders, have caused alarm not only among our Membership but across the nation. While the circumstances around us may be shifting, our commitment remains steadfast.
Our profession has long been at the forefront of embracing change, fostering an environment where everyone can express their most authentic selves. Our differences make us stronger, and any challenge to human rights that diminishes, marginalizes, or threatens any of us must be met with resistance. We have worked too hard and for too long to advance inclusivity, and we refuse to backtrack now. Taking rights away from anyone is a step in the wrong direction—our path must always be forward.
As a Union, we will continue to uplift the voices of marginalized groups, ensuring that every member—regardless of age, race, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, immigrant status, or national origin—is seen, valued, and protected. We are not alone in this fight. Many within and beyond our industry share our commitment, and through our union, the legal system, and every available resource, we must stand together to defend our basic human rights.
Now and always, we must stand side by side, protect one another, and stay united in our shared fight for justice and equity. We are stronger together—but more importantly, we are better together.
If you need support, we encourage you to reach out to your Local Council and take advantage of the resources available. Our Union offers assistance through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 1-800-424-2406, where representatives are available 24/7. Additionally, United’s Lyra program provides up to eight free sessions with a mental health professional each year—visit Flying Together and search for “Lyra” to learn more.
