Southwest Airlines today confirmed one of their aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, made an emergency diversion to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) earlier today after the Crew reported issues with the number one engine which resulted in damage to the fuselage.

The airline expressed deep sadness in confirming there was one fatality resulting from the accident. Today we stand with our brothers and sisters at Southwest, all of whom we imagine are devastated by today’s series of events. We are proud of our industry colleagues whose actions today in the line of duty were executed swiftly to ensure the safety of the passengers in their care during the emergency, subsequent diversion and safe landing at Philadelphia.

While specific details of what caused the damage to the number one engine on the jet are not immediately known, the National Transportation Safety Board is involved in the investigation.

We join our Southwest Brothers & Sisters in keeping all those affected by today’s events in our thoughts and prayers.
