With the recent award of Job Shares for the January and February bid months, there have been some questions regarding the amount of additional flying participating Flight Attendants may pick up during vacation fly-through and/or on Reserve days off. To answer these questions, we first need to correctly calculate the monthly maximum for Flight Attendants in a Job Share.

Section 16.C.4. of the Contract limits Flight Attendants in a Job Share or Partnership to a monthly maximum of 55:00 hours pay and credit. However, if a participating Flight Attendant has vacation during the month, these hours are not applied toward the maximum. For example, a Flight Attendant in a Job Share having six (6) days of vacation during the month (6 X 3:15 = 19:30 hours). The monthly maximum for activity that occurs outside of the vacation period is 55:00 hours. The 19:30 hours of vacation will be paid in addition to credited hours flown.

Once vacation credit has been excluded, if any, we can determine the number of additional hours that may be picked up on remaining days off and/or during a vacation fly-through. In order to address the Contractual ability of Flight Attendants in a Job Share to pick up flying in these cases while also recognizing that the purpose of a Job Share is to create an overall reduction in headcount, the company and the Union established the following formula. The formula differs slightly depending on the monthly status of the Flight Attendant in that the credit value of trips is used for Lineholders, whereas the credit value of availability days is used for Reserves.

LINEHOLDERS

55:00 hours

Job Share Monthly Maximum

Total Credit Value of

Trips in the Line

Outside of Any Vacation Periods

=

# of Additional Hours That May Be Picked Up

On Remaining Days Off/

During a Vacation

Fly-Through

EXAMPLE

A Lineholder in a Job Share has two (2) trips outside of the vacation period that have a combined credit value of 35:00 hours:

55:00 hrs monthly maximum – 35:00 hrs = 20:00 additional hours may be picked up.

Any vacation hours are paid in addtion to credited hours flown.

RESERVES

1. Determine the total credit value of Reserve days in the line (outside of any vacation):

Reserve Daily Value

4:07 in a 31-Day Month

or

4:20 in a 30-Day Month

x

# of Reserve Availability Days

Outside of Any Vacation Periods

=

Total Credit Value of

Reserve Days

Outside of any Vacation Periods

2. Use the determined credit value of the Reserve days to complete the formula:

55:00 hours

Job Share Monthly Maximum

Total Credit Value of

Reserve Days

Outside of any Vacation Periods

=

# of Additional Hours That May Be Picked Up

on Reserve Days Off*

EXAMPLE

A Reserve in a Job Share has nine (9) days of availability in a 30-day month:

9 days of availability x 4:20 per Reserve day = 39:00 hrs of Reserve credit.

55:00 hrs monthly maximum – 39:00 hrs = 16:00 hrs may be picked up on Reserve days off*

Any vacation hours are paid in addtion to credited hours flown.

*VAC days become OFF days when operational fly-through is elected by Reserves
